Plagiarism is considered a serious violation of SKC Conduct Code. It may take two basic forms: 1) Using someone's work as your own without citing the source. This may include direct copying, rephrasing and summarizing, as well as taking someone's ideas and putting them into different words. 2) Presenting oral or written course work specifically solicited from and prepared by another as one's own. The academic world depends on people examining the works of other scholars for their own research. Faculty and researchers don't advance knowledge by passing off others' work as their own. Students don't learn by copying what they should think out on their own. The consequences for plagiarism may range from mild (having to re-write the paper) to severe (expulsion from the BSW program or SKC). The SKC BSW plagiarism policy can be found here. There are many resources available to help you to maintain honesty and integrity in your academic work. We highly recommend The OWL at Purdue website.
